Services: Chiropratic

“Chiropractic is a health care discipline which emphasizes the inherent recuperative power of the body to heal itself without the use of drugs or surgery. The practice of chiropractic focuses on the relationship between structure (primarily the spine) and function (as coordinated by the nervous system) and how that relationship affects the preservation and restoration of health. In addition, Doctors of Chiropractic recognize the value and responsibility of working in cooperation with other health care practitioners when in the best interest of the patient.” — Association of Chiropractic Colleges

In addition to standard examination procedures used in the medical field, chiropractors look to the spine to find areas of dysfunction called subluxations. Subluxations are misalignments or fixations of spinal joints that disrupt the nervous system. Since the nervous system is the master system coordinating all functions and processes in the body, a subluxation’s effects can be far reaching. The disorganization of the nervous system caused by a subluxation can affect nerves, cause pain, muscle spasms, loss of skin sensation, and vascular changes at the end of the affected nerve. This is why chiropractic care to the low back may help the weakness a patient has in their foot or why chiropractic care to the neck restores sensation to the numbness a patient has in their pinky finger. Subluxations develop as a result of trauma, toxins (built up through immobility of the spine), or even mental stress.

Dr. Pietrantone can locate your areas of subluxation and determine if they are related to your condition. He uses many different techniques to correct these subluxations. The most common technique is a standard chiropractic adjustment. This is when the doctor gives a gentle thrust with his hands to the fixated segments of the spine to restore proper range of motion and help reset the nervous system.
