What Is Chiropractic Care?

Chiropractic is grounded in the belief that the body has an innate ability to heal itself—without the use of drugs or surgery.

It focuses on the connection between the spine’s structure and the nervous system’s function, recognizing how misalignments in the spine can disrupt the body’s ability to regulate and heal.

As stated by the Association of Chiropractic Colleges:

“Chiropractic emphasizes the inherent recuperative power of the body to heal itself without the use of drugs or surgery.”

What Are Subluxations?

Chiropractors use both traditional and specialized assessments to identify subluxations—misalignments or fixations in the spine that disrupt nervous system function.

Because your nervous system controls and coordinates every process in the body, a subluxation can lead to symptoms far beyond back pain, including:

  • Muscle spasms
  • Numbness or tingling
  • Changes in skin sensation
  • Poor circulation
  • Weakness or pain in limbs

For example, a low back adjustment may restore strength in a weak foot, while a neck correction could bring sensation back to a numb pinky finger.

What Causes Subluxations?

Subluxations can result from:

  • Physical trauma (falls, injuries, poor posture)
  • Chemical stress (toxins, inflammation from immobility)
  • Emotional stress (tension, anxiety, mental overload)

How We Treat Them

Dr. Luke uses a variety of techniques to correct subluxations.

The most common is the chiropractic adjustment—a gentle, manual thrust applied to restore spinal motion and help the nervous system “reset.”

To go deeper, he also uses Applied Kinesiology to find the root cause of chronic or recurring subluxations, addressing deeper imbalances and supporting long-term change.
